BACKGROUND: The City’s SunTran Transfer Station is located at 501 NE First Avenue. The transfer/bus station does not have access to restrooms or a location to sell bus tickets/passes.
In January 2022, Ocala City Council approved a task work order with Kimley-Horn and Associates to design a 1,000± sf building facility that includes a restroom for the public and City/SunTran employees, as well as a ticketing kiosk. The proposed facility will be in an existing paved parking lot serving SunTran’s Downtown Transfer Station.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS: Kimley-Horn Associates will be submitting plans for permitting in the coming months. The proposed facility will have a red brick façade and architectural features similar to Union Station (see attached preliminary plans).
FISCAL IMPACT: The design for the kiosk/restrooms is funded 100 percent from an FDOT PTGA grant, account #494-050-455-544-54-31010. Construction will be funded 100 percent by a 6 million FTA capital grant.
