BACKGROUND:
The Ocala Police Department (OPD) has searched for, and found, software that will enhance its community policing by deriving information through the software, otherwise known as "intelligence-led" policing. Many agencies in Florida utilize Fusus software for intelligence-led policing. OPD staff members visited four agencies to observe the software in real time.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The purchase of the Fusus software will increase the overall efficiency and capability of the Ocala Police Department as well as the city. Fusus combines the views of all the city's cameras into one display, thereby increasing efficiency. It also connects to the computer-aided dispatch system and includes a multitude of covert systems. In addition, city employees with city-issued cell phones will have access to a panic button to help employees remain safe.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total purchase cost is $235,000. Funds totaling $50,000 are available in account 092-018-811-521-52-52060. A budget resolution is required to transfer the remaining funds, totaling $185,000, from the Police Trust Fund Reserve for Fund Balance. Funds will be transferred to account 610-018-859-521-52-52045.
