BACKGROUND: The Douglass Law Firm grand opening event, hosted by Ocala Main Street, will occur in downtown Ocala on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Ocala Main Street will provide free beer and wine from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will occur in front of the Mainstreet Community Bank on North Magnolia Avenue from NW Second Street to NW First Street. This event is outside of the Downtown Event Zone.

Ocala Main Street will work with the Recreation and Parks Department, the Ocala Police Department, and other city departments regarding the event layout, street closures, and process for providing alcohol during the event.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS: Section 6-7(b) of the Code of Ordinances, City of Ocala, Florida, provides an exception to allow for possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on streets, sidewalks, and public parking facilities for special events.

Section 6-7(b) states that such special events must be recognized and approved by resolution of the City Council at a public hearing.

FISCAL IMPACT: The event supports downtown businesses and helps promote the north side of downtown Ocala.

PROCUREMENT REVIEW: N/A

LEGAL REVIEW: This resolution will be reviewed and approved for form and legality by City Attorney, William E. Sexton.
