BACKGROUND:

Wear Gloves is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide opportunities for those in need to earn what they need.  Wear Gloves, Inc., has requested a pickup truck from the City of Ocala to further the efforts of their programs to assist persons with opportunities that will aid them to become more self-sufficient, regain permanent shelter, and receive work experience necessary for future employment. The City of Ocala's Public Works Department intends to utilize Wear Gloves outsourced personnel services for many maintenance tasks, including the ongoing efforts to collect litter.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

Staff recommends the donation of a 2008 Ford F150 as indicated below.  This vehicle is 14 years old and has reached the end of its useful life as a front-line City vehicle. This surplus donation will enhance Wear Gloves programs to assist persons in need. This donation is aligned with the City's goal of addressing the homeless population that exists in the community.
