BACKGROUND:  Sections 163.31777 and 1013.33(2), Florida Statutes (F.S.), require each county and its municipalities to enter into an interlocal agreement with the district school board to establish jointly the specific ways in which the plans and processes of the district school board and the local governments are to be coordinated.

Over the past year, elected officials and staff representing Marion County, the City of Ocala, the City of Belleview, the City of Dunnellon, the Town of Reddick, the Town of McIntosh and Marion County Public Schools have diligently met to update the existing interlocal agreement.  The parties agreed to this effort during the November 8, 2021 joint workshop and were provided a draft document for consideration at their following joint workshop, held December 7, 2022.  On January 13, 2023, representatives, including attorneys for Marion County, the City of Ocala, the City of Belleview, and Marion County Public Schools had a final meeting to complete the document.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:  During the month of February, the parties agreed to present the final document to their respective Boards or Councils. Staff recommends approval. The Marion County Board of County Commissioners approved the interlocal agreement on February 7, 2023.
