BACKGROUND:
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Specifically, Title VI provides that “no person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”
The SunTran Title VI Program Update 2026-2029 has been prepared pursuant to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and FTA Circular 4702.1B, “Title VI Requirements and Guidelines for Federal Transit Administration Recipients,” published October 1, 2012. This update also summarizes major accomplishments since the last program was approved in 2023, including the following:
- New bus purchase in 2026.
- Implementation of the O-Line Downtown Trolley.
- Development and implementation of the Transit Informational Kiosk at the bus transfer
station.
Awarded the Low or No Emission (Low-No) Project Grant.
Additionally, the update provides compliance with all parameters of the Title VI Compliance Checklist for transit providers operating fixed-route transit service.
The City of Ocala, as the recipient of federal transit funding, is required to submit this report to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to satisfy the following objectives:
Ensure that federally assisted benefits and related benefits are made available and are equitably distributed.
Ensure that the level and quality of public transportation service is provided in a nondiscriminatory manner.
