BACKGROUND:
Staff presented and proposed a new open call for the Public Artist Roster on December 4, 2024. This directory of visual artists from around the country are approved by OMAC as a shortlist for public art projects, and both city and private initiatives. Staff presented a draft Artist Roster open call on June 4, 2025, and discussed a possible timeline for the call and application review. On August 6, 2025, staff provided edits to the open call along with other city comparisons to determine roster duration timeline. OMAC tabled motion and recommended additional edits for October 1, 2025.
On October 1, 2025, staff updated the Public Artist Roster open call with the following:
• Applicants are required to include two to three professional references
• Existing artists must reapply every five years
• Current artists on roster will be notified to update and renew in 2026
• Open calls seeking new artists will occur every two to three years with informal rolling application accepted and reviewed by OMAC
The Public Artist Roster open call is live with a deadline of April 27.
On February 4, 2026, staff shared that the Public Artist Roster will go live in March and have the deadline of April 27, 2026.
In May OMAC will receive jury access to evaluate qualifications. OMAC members are not to discuss applicant details outside nor prior to the next meeting. June 5 OMAC will convene to begin evaluation conversations.
