BACKGROUND:
The project consists of additional engineering and design work for roadway improvements on NE Eighth Avenue from SR 40 to SR 492 (NE 14th Street). The NE Eighth Avenue Road Improvement project is federally funded up to $4,000,000 through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)’s Local Agency Program (LAP) in Fiscal Year 2026-27.
On February 14, 2019, Task Work Order (TWO) No. 16 was issued to Kimley-Horn and Associates (Kimley-Horn) to develop a final design concept plan for the NE Eighth Avenue Road Improvement project in the amount of $29,227.86.
On August 20, 2019, TWO No. 22 was issued to Kimley-Horn to prepare construction plans and permit documents for the NE Eighth Avenue Road Improvement project in the amount of $184,850.94. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) approved the construction plans and permit documents in 2022. The original 2022 design included buffered bicycle lanes, wider sidewalks, raised medians, hardscaping, landscaping, and four roundabouts at NE Second Street, NE Third Street, NE Sixth Street, and NE Ninth Street.
In response to a request from FDOT, TWO No. 55 was issued to Kimley-Horn on April 14, 2026, in the amount of $62,702.28 to update the 2022 design plans, specifications, and construction estimates to meet current standards and comply with Federal requirements under the LAP Agreement for construction funding. No roadway design updates were included in TWO No. 55.
