BACKGROUND:
On March 11, 2021 the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 was signed into law providing $30.5 billion in federal funding to support the nation's public transportation systems as they continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Ocala received notification from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) that Ocala's allocation was $627,007. The City submitted a grant application for the ARPA funding and was notified on March 22, 2022 that the grant has been awarded.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The funds will be used to cover operational and capital expenses for the provision of the SunTran service while recovering from COVID-19, to purchase bus equipment to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and to fund a necessary update to the Transit Development Plan. All expenses must be incurred on or after January 20, 2020 and the funds are available until Sept. 30, 2024.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Federal Transit Administration will pay 100% of eligible grant expenses with the ARPA funding. A local match is not required. The funds will be received in revenue account 494-331-000-000-09-33141. Expenses will be paid out of divisions 666 for operating and 665 for capital in fund 494.
