BACKGROUND:
License plate reader cameras are utilized strategically throughout the city to assist with solving crimes. The Ocala Police Department started using license plate readers in May 2018. These cameras have become instrumental in increasing the solvability of crimes and enhancing response measures in daily police work.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The purchase of these cameras will aid in enforcement efforts around the city. These devices allow us to assist with solving crimes not only in the city, but the surrounding county as well.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This purchase will utilize NASPO contract OK-MA-145-21-500. This contract was effective April 20, 2016. Funding for this purchase was approved as part of the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Ocala Police Department budget plan and $125,047 is budgeted in expenditure account 001-018-603-521-66-64010. This purchase will be tracked by Munis contract number 240608.
