BACKGROUND:
This interlocal agreement allows residents of the City of Ocala to dispose of household hazardous and electronic waste at no charge. City residents can dispose of these items at any Marion County disposal site, or at either of the two collection events held at the SW corner of NE Fourteenth Street and NE Eighth Avenue throughout the year. The City negotiated a flat fee of $28,265 per year with the County, regardless of the amount collected. The five-year contract expenditure is $141,325, up from the previous contract's expenditure of $123,251. This is an increase of 14.66 percent.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Disposal of household hazardous and electronic waste is vital to maintaining a clean and safe environment. This agreement allows City residents to dispose of these items year-round, in addition to the City's two annual amnesty events, which provide safe disposal and reduce the number of improperly placed items in their household garbage.
Staff recommends approval of the Fourth Amendment and Renewal of the Interlocal Agreement with Marion County to provide household hazardous and electronic waste service for a five-year term, from July 7, 2026, through September 20, 2031, with one (1) optional five-year renewal.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding for this contract has been budgeted in 453-023-326-534-53-34010 for Fiscal Year 2026-27 in the amount of $28,265 and will be budgeted in 453-023-326-534-53-34010 for Fiscal Year 2027-28 through Fiscal Year 2030-31 in the amount of $28,265 per year.
