body
BACKGROUND:
The Ocala Police Department has used GrayKey software since 2018. On May 24, 2018, the City posted a Sole Source Posting (SSP) No. SSP-166 for GrayKey software. SSP-166 closed on June 6, 2018, with no objections from other vendors. Grayshift, LLC, was the exclusive distributor for GrayKey in Florida. In March 2023, Grayshift, LLC merged with Magnet Forensics.
The software assists in collecting digital evidence for forensic analysis. It is one of the tools used by digital forensic technicians to process search warrants on computers, phones, tablets, and other electronic devices.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Renewing this software is essential to ensure the Ocala Police Department maintains current licensing and support for the Graykey system. Since updates to electronic devices happen as often as daily, the software must stay current and receive continuous technical support to meet evidentiary standards. The renewal will help detectives keep up with the increasing demand for digital forensics.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding for this purchase was approved as part of the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Police Department budget, and $69,520 is budgeted in expenditure account 001-018-811-521-52-52045. This purchase will be tracked by Munis contract number 250725.
PROCUREMENT REVIEW:
These goods and services were procured in compliance with the City’s Procurement Policy.
LEGAL REVIEW:
This Agreement will be reviewed and approved for form and legality by City Attorney, William E. Sexton.
