BACKGROUND:
On August 6, 2020, the City of Ocala Fleet Management Department received an award from the EPA to replace five heavy-duty diesel-fueled trucks with zero-emission electric-powered trucks. City Council accepted this award on October 6, 2020. In September 2021, the City purchased and placed in service three (3) of the five (5) electric-powered refuse trucks.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Since the time of the award, the cost of vehicles and equipment has increased substantially. Increased steel cost and heavy demand have caused manufacturers to impose additional charges. The purchase of the additional two (2) refuse trucks will cost an additional 8% or $48,199 per truck.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding in the amount of $96,398 is available in Sanitation's Reserve for Contingencies account (453-099-999-534-81-9980). The attached budget resolution transfers funding to the appropriate expenditure account (453-023-525-534-66-64010) to facilitate this purchase.
