BACKGROUND:
The general aviation terminal apron is situated directly in front of the general aviation terminal building and spans approximately 140,000 square feet. Other than the main runway, it is the most heavily utilized portion of pavement and has reached the end of its useful life.
The entire pavement section contains about 7.75 inches of asphalt placed in multiple layers, with some of the oldest pavement dating back to the original construction of the airport in 1968. The top layer was overlaid in 2008. The Airport has been working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to design the pavement rehabilitation and submitted a grant application for its complete rehabilitation in June 2025.
The FAA advises the grant was accepted, but remains unreleased at "headquarters" in Washington, D.C. The grant must be officially released through the FAA channels, but it is forthcoming. The FAA also advised that the grant must be signed by September 18, 2025, and recommends that any necessary internal approvals be obtained as soon as possible.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

* The project is consistent with the Airport Master Plan.
* Staff will coordinate construction activities with Sheltair Aviation, the ramp area's leaseholder.
