BACKGROUND:
On August 29, 2023, Tropical Storm Idalia strengthened into a hurricane before making landfall on Florida's Coast. On August 31, 2023, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. approved an emergency declaration for Florida. On August 29, 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis approved executive order 23-175 declaring a statewide emergency because of Hurricane Idalia. Furthermore, on August 28, 2023, Marion County issued a declaration of state of local emergency due to the threat of harm to human life and property from the possible impact of Hurricane Idalia.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
During Fiscal Year 2022-23, the City incurred expenses related to Hurricane Idalia totaling $421,975.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Budget reserves totaling $421,975, as detailed below, will be used to support Fiscal Year 2022-23 expenditures caused by Hurricane Idalia.
Staff recommends and seeks approval of the fund allocations for hurricane related city expenses as follows:
