BACKGROUND:

The term for former board member William “Bill” Ray expired on March 1, 2023, and he did not reapply, creating a vacancy.

The Office of the City Clerk has received four applications from Christie Hicks, Wesley Hogan, Myles McConico, and Abe Rassam, to fill this unexpired term ending March 1, 2026.

The membership qualifications on this board require a majority of the membership to be citizens of the City.  Presently, there are three vacancies, and six applicants.  Two of the applicants are citizens of the City.  Currently on this seven-member board, there are two City of Ocala citizens, and two Marion County citizens.  An item on the Consent Agenda seeks appointment of two City of Ocala citizens to the Ocala Recreation Commission, thus maintaining the majority requirement.  This item seeks to fill the remaining vacancy from the four applicants who do not reside within the City of Ocala but are eligible to serve on the board as Marion County residents.

Council may vote for one applicant to be appointed to fill this vacancy.

The vacancy was advertised on the City’s website.
