BACKGROUND:
On June 30, 2023, the Ocala Police Department was advised that the City of Ocala qualified for a direct allocation in the amount of $41,391 to provide reimbursement for expenses related to the Bureau of Justice Assistance Fiscal Year 2022-23 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The intended program will focus on community policing and education.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Funding will be used to pay overtime for the officers participating in programs that offer opportunities for positive engagement with the community, for training, and classroom supplies.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City will receive $41,391 in grant funding to assist the police department with this program. Funding will be distributed in police department account, 001-060-881-521-52-*, as indicated in the accompanying budget resolution provided on the consent portion of the same agenda. No match is required; however, any additional benefit costs shall be absorbed by the city.
