BACKGROUND:
Marion County (the County) has a design-build construction project agreement for the extension of SW 40th/49th Avenue (the Project). This project consists of constructing a four-lane divided urban roadway from SW 66th Street to SW 43rd Street Road and an intersection on SW 66th Street. This Project, presented as SW 49th/40th Avenue Phase 1 in the 2024/2025 Marion County Transportation Improvement Program, is the last phase to be constructed within the city limits.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The City of Ocala desires to extend water and wastewater utility infrastructures within the SW 40th/49th Avenue roadway project to serve future demands. These proposed extensions will provide water and sewer service and capacity in the southwest area. Additionally, the extensions will benefit future developments within the vicinity, such as Winding Oaks and Heathbrook.
Marion County and the City of Ocala agree that facilitating the use of the County's roadway contractor to extend the water and sewer utilities and the roadway construction via this interlocal agreement will be convenient, cost effective, and ideal for both parties. The County's roadway contractor has given a unit price bid of $2,195,280.22 to extend the water and sewer utilities. In addition to the agreement amount with Marion County, staff requests a 10 percent project contingency in the amount of $219,528 to allow the City Engineer to approve change orders.
