BACKGROUND:
The City of Ocala (City) currently operates stormwater management facilities and programs within the incorporated City limits. To address flood protection for its residents, the City seeks to identify and address critical issues through the creation and implementation of a Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP). The SWMP will address these needs by identifying limits of flooding during the various design storm events based on the most up-to-date development information and topographic data.
The SWMP will be based on an existing conditions stormwater model and associated data developed as part of the Vulnerability Assessment (VA) currently in progress as a separate project performed under Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc (Kimley-Horn) Task Work Order (TWO) No.37, and partially funded by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) grant agreement 24PLN40. The SWMP will use the model developed in the VA to analyze the flood impacts to a higher level of detail within the City. The SWMP will also make recommendations for implementation of projects to address and mitigate the flood risk to critical infrastructure identified in the VA.
In June 2024, Kimley- Horn applied on the City's behalf for grant 25PL17 to help fund the proposed cost of $462,170.11 for the development of the SWMP from the VA, as shown in TWO No.51 from Kimley-Horn and Associates.
