BACKGROUND: The Ocala Police Department utilizes technology and training devices to aid in training officers. The Apex Officer Training Simulator increases the realism of training, heightening awareness and proper use of force responses. The simulator provides for realistic scenarios based on what is occurring across our nation and requires officers to make decisions and respond appropriately. It allows for de-escalation scenarios, enabling and allowing officers to train in proper de-escalation techniques, transitioning to less lethal weapons when appropriate.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

Allow the Ocala Police Department to purchase the equipment utilizing funding from existing sales tax allocated to the police department. The cost for the simulator equipment is $89,296. This is a sole-source, specialized product only available from Govred Technology.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funds in the amount of $89,296 will be spent from account 120-018-831-521-66-64010 utilizing the existing budget.
