BACKGROUND:
As presented at the workshop on May 12, 2026, and based on the approved Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget, Planning, Engineering, and Public Works staff have reviewed and are now presenting the proposed 2026-27 Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) for approval.
The City of Ocala TIP serves as a long-range transportation planning tool and resource for the City Council, staff, and the public. For this purpose, the TIP lists funded and unfunded transportation projects over the next five-year period. At a minimum, the TIP will be updated annually to provide the City Council with the opportunity to adjust funding and resources based on changing conditions and the need for improvements. The types of projects to be included in the TIP are capacity, operational/intersections, bicycle and pedestrian, planning, and public transit. Activities undertaken on these projects usually include survey, design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The projects listed in the TIP are included based on information from the prior TIP, staff input, the Ocala Marion Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) long-range plan, the TPO List of Priority Projects (LOPP), and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Five-Year TIP. The City’s TIP focuses on major capacity and reconstruction projects, intersection improvement projects, intelligent transportation system (ITS) projects, and turn lanes. The TIP does not typically include maintenance or rehabilitation projects, which are planned and maintained by the City Engineer’s Office.
