body
BACKGROUND:
The Water Treatment Plant began operations in 1972 using two groundwater wells, #1 and #2, to produce drinking water. In 1985, well #3 was added with a flow capacity of five million gallons per day (MGD). Well #3 was recently taken out of production due to a seal water leak caused by excessive vibration. Layne Christensen is under contract with the City of Ocala for well pump diagnostics and repair and was called in to evaluate well #3. This is one of five wells that the Water Treatment Plant uses in its daily rotation of production wells. These repairs are urgently needed due to the fact that the City of Ocala's water treatment plant is entering its busiest time of year for water, requiring full production from all five wells.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Layne Christensen Company is a certified well driller and installer. Labor pricing items are per the piggyback agreement (City of Tallahassee contract). Repairs will include casing cleaning, reinspection, and a new pump, mechanical seal, and column pipe installation. Recent Ocala projects completed by Layne Christensen are wells #1, 2, 4, and deep wells #8, 9, and 10 at Water Treatment Plant #2. The pumps are designed and made in the USA and are specialized for our use.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding is available in the FY22 budget in account string 455-030-303-533-53-46010 for necessary Water Treatment Plant maintenance and repair.

PROCUREMENT REVIEW:
The piggyback agreement is in compliance with the City's procurement policy.
