BACKGROUND:
Private entities request special duty police services from the City of Ocala Police Department to provide a police presence at special events and/or functions or private businesses located within the City of Ocala. Sworn officers of the Ocala Police Department are permitted to accept police related special duty assignments with private entities during off-duty hours and at such times as will not interfere with the efficient performance of regularly scheduled or emergency duty for the City of Ocala.
All requests for the services of special duty police officers are made through the City of Ocala Police Department and granted at the discretion of the Chief of Police or his designee. Officers of the Ocala Police Department undertake special duty assignments voluntarily and, as such, the Ocala Police Department makes no guarantees regarding officer availability.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Under this Agreement, sworn officers of the Ocala Police Department will be able to voluntarily accept special duty assignments based on requests submitted by the Marion County School Board during the contract term. Officers accepting special duty assignments under this Agreement shall perform their duties solely under the supervision and direction of the Ocala Police Department at all times and shall not be subject to any conflicting orders of the requesting entity.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The hourly rates charged by the Ocala Police Department for special duty police services shall be as follows:
Normal Rate: $50.00 per officer per hour.
