BACKGROUND:
The approach end of Runway 36 was recently found to not meet the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards for a runway safety area due to changes in grade and depressions that exceed FAA design tolerances. The FAA previously awarded a grant for the design phase of this project.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
* This grant is for the construction phase.
* The Airport Advisory Board supports this project.
* The project is consistent with the Airport Master Plan.
* Once the FAA grant is approved and executed, a request will be made to the Florida Department of Transportation for a grant to offset the City's matching obligation further.
* Staff also requests that the City Council authorize the City Council President and City Attorney to execute the grant.
* Staff recommends approval.
FISCAL IMPACT:
An accompanying budget resolution is provided on the same agenda.
