BACKGROUND:

Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) has ongoing operational needs to maintain the integrity and reliability of its underground electric distribution infrastructure. These needs are addressed through a competitively procured contract awarded by the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA #2021-114) to Osmose Utility Services, Inc., which FMPA has renewed for continued member use.

OEU uses these services to inspect and remediate pad-mounted transformers and other underground electrical enclosures that deteriorate due to environmental factors such as hard water and fertilizer exposure. This work, which is not performed in-house, involves surface treatment, corrosion repair, hinge and latch replacement, and structural reinforcement to extend equipment life and prevent outages.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

Staff recommends approval of the continued use of FMPA Contract #2021-114 with Osmose Utility Services, Inc., and requests approval of an additional $200,000 in expenditure for underground equipment inspection and remediation during Fiscal Year 2026.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Budgeted funds for this item are available in the approved Fiscal Year 2026 budget under account #457-032-231-531-53-34010.
