BACKGROUND:
The approach end of Runway 36 was recently found not to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards for a runway safety area because changes in grade and depressions exceed FAA design tolerances.
The initial Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant provided $9,509 toward the City's required local match for the FAA design grant. Subsequently, the FAA has awarded a $406,165 construction grant for the project, which requires a $21,377 local match. Amendment Number One to the initial FDOT grant increases FDOT's participation by $17,102, bringing total FDOT participation to $26,611 and reducing the City's remaining match requirement for the FAA construction grant to $4,275.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The Airport Advisory Board supports this project.
The project is consistent with the Airport Master Plan.
Staff also requests that the City Council authorize the City Council President to execute the grant.
Staff recommends approval.
