BACKGROUND:
On or about March 31, 2023, the city's workers' compensation attorney, Bettina Carrier, provided staff with a proposed Stipulation for Lump-Sum Settlement under Florida Statutes Section 440.20(11)(c), (d), and (e) (2003) (Future Medical Treatment Included in Settlement) which was the result of extensive effort to negotiate and obtain a reasonable, mutually beneficial settlement in this matter.
Ms. Carrier, as well as the city's Risk Manager, Director of Human Resources & Risk Management, City Attorney and City Manager believe this proposed settlement to be in the best interest of the City of Ocala, Florida and therefore recommend to the City Council that it be approved.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The parties in the matter of Haile v. City of Ocala, Florida have reached a proposed settlement which includes payment by the City of Ocala, Florida to Ms. Haile in the amount of $100,000.00 as compensation for workplace-related injuries.
A copy of the proposed settlement document accompanies this agenda item.
Staff for the City of Ocala, Florida including the city's workers' compensation attorney, the city's Risk Manager, the Director of Human Resources & Risk Management, the City Attorney and the City Manager support and recommend approval of this settlement.
Approval of this settlement is in the best interest of the City of Ocala, Florida and its citizens.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The settlement requires payment by the City of Ocala, Florida in the amount of $100,000.00 which will be paid from Account 628-099-999-590-81-45020.
