BACKGROUND:
The Recreation and Parks Department offers organized summer camps, with several hundred children participating annually. Summer camp programs offer recreational opportunities and affordable childcare during summer break.

Field trips are integral to the summer camp experience, with destinations including but not limited to movie theaters, bowling alleys, amusement parks, and museums. Since 2010, the Recreation and Parks Department has leased school buses from the Marion County Public Schools (MCPS) to support the transportation needs of summer programs.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Leasing school buses from the MCPS offers a cost-effective solution to the City's summer camp transportation requirements.

The City will lease one 83-passenger bus for summer 2026. The rental term is May 31, 2026 - August 1, 2026. The rental fee is $600 per month for a total contract amount of $1,200.

The City employs staff who have the appropriate credentials, licenses, and training to operate the bus.

Staff recommends approval.

The contract amount is $1,200, and does not include additional expenses, such as routine maintenance and fuel, which are necessary for the City's operation of the bus.
All costs are budgeted in the Recreation and Parks Department's Recreation/Rentals & Leases (001-021-132-579-57-44010) budget.
