BACKGROUND:
On May 6, 2025, the City Council approved a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to fund the design and construction of concrete pads for a fuel farm expansion, aircraft wash rack, and operations vehicle parking area at the Ocala Airport:
1. Fuel Tank Containment Pad
This component involves designing and constructing a concrete containment pad to accommodate future fuel tanks at the airport. The new concrete pad will mirror the design of the existing fuel tank containment area. Expanding fuel capacity is essential to support the airport's growing general aviation operations. All infrastructure related to the fuel tanks (e.g., piping, electrical systems, and connections to fueling equipment) will be handled under a separate contract managed by Sheltair Aviation.
2. Aircraft Wash Rack
The wash rack will be specifically designed to accommodate larger aircraft, such as the Pilatus PC-12, and will feature a concrete pad to support the equipment. The system will include an oil/water separator to ensure proper wastewater management and environmental compliance. This component enhances the airport's aircraft maintenance capabilities by providing a dedicated facility for cleaning, improving both aesthetics and functionality for aviation businesses and private aircraft owners.
3. Operations/Maintenance Parking Pad
A new concrete parking pad will be constructed to accommodate four airport operations and maintenance trucks. Currently, these vehicles are parked on dir...
