BACKGROUND:
The Ocala Police Department has been actively combating illegal fentanyl activity through investigative operations, made possible through a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) State Assistance for Fentanyl Education (SAFE) grant that provides reimbursement for approved fentanyl-related activities. The grant has supported the Unified Drug Enforcement Strike Team's (UDEST) efforts, yielding valuable results. However, additional time is needed to complete ongoing investigations and ensure successful prosecution.

FDLE has extended the grant allowing UDEST to continue its critical work and maximize the impact of the initial funding. The extension will cover both SAFE cases generated under this grant ensuring that the investigative momentum is maintained, and that the community continues to benefit from these efforts.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The SAFE grant project period is now: July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2025. The extension will allow the Ocala Police Department to complete ongoing investigations and fully utilize the approved funding. The Ocala Police Department is requesting approval of the grant extension to support the continued efforts in combating illegal fentanyl activity.
