BACKGROUND:
The general aviation terminal apron is situated directly in front of the general aviation terminal building and spans approximately 140,000 square feet. Aside from the main runway, it is the most heavily utilized portion of the pavement and has reached the end of its useful life.
The entire pavement section consists of approximately 7.75 inches of asphalt, placed in multiple layers, with some of the oldest pavement dating back to the airport's original construction in 1968. The top layer was overlaid in 2008.
The Federal Aviation Administration has provided grant funding for the design, construction, and inspection services for the apron's rehabilitation.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
On February 17, 2022, the City issued Request for Proposals (RFP) No. AIR/220118 for continuing general aviation engineering services. Of the eight firms that responded, Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC, and McFarland Johnson, Inc. were the highest-ranked and were subsequently awarded three-year contracts.
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC, brings substantial experience in airport engineering and planning, making them well-qualified to lead this phase of the project.
With the contract AIR/220118 recently renewed, ICE has just begun its fourth (out of five) year under its contract with the City.
