BACKGROUND:

The Ocala Police Department (OPD) has been using GrayKey software since 2018 to assist in the collection of digital evidence for forensic investigations. This software is one of the tools employed by the digital forensic department to process search warrants on various electronic devices, including computers, phones, and tablets.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

Renewing the GrayKey software is essential for the OPD as it guarantees access to current licensing and ongoing support for the software system. Updates for electronic devices can occur as frequently as daily. To meet evidentiary requirements, it is crucial for the system to remain technically supported. The renewal of the GrayKey software will enable OPD to keep up with the fast-paced demands of digital forensics. GrayKey software is regularly employed in OPD investigations and allows for the collection of vital data. Therefore, staff recommends approval of this renewal.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for this renewal purchase was approved as part of the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Police Department Budget Plan, and $74,740 is budgeted in account 001-018-811-521-52-52045. This purchase will be tracked by Munis contract number 260831. The prior contract number was 250725 in the amount of $69,520.
