BACKGROUND:
On August 7, 2024, the "Natural Flow" mural was approved for deaccession (removal) by the Ocala Municipal Arts Commission (OMAC) and a decision made for a new mural to be installed with an agreed $60,000 compensation to the new muralist. Additional funds for removal and tank preparation for the new mural were secured under contract GRM/250012.

On August 27, 2024, the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation awarded the City of Ocala a $15,000 grant for the water tank mural project (GRM/240986). Fine Arts for Ocala (FAFO) also awarded the city $15,000 donation for the new mural. On October 15, 2024, City Council approved Agenda Item 2024-2255, BR-2025-106, and BR-2025-107 for the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation grant and FAFO award for the ground storage water tank.


FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
On August 12, 2024, an open call for muralists was published on public open call listing sites and closed on September 12, 2024. On October 07, 2024, a jury of eight individuals representing each partnering organization participated in the selection of the muralist for the project. Out of 65 qualifying applications, the jury selected one submission with two runner-up applicants. Muralist Christian Stanley of Stanley Creative, LLC based on the design's overall score considering the mural design, theme of native Marion County wildlife, and experience working on large mural projects. On October 26, 2024, Stanley Creative, LLC's mural design was announced and unveiled to the public.
