body
BACKGROUND:
In collaboration with the City of Ocala and in honor of the Pioneer Garden Club's 100 years as a nonprofit organization, the Club proposes the donation of the bench Zebra Longwing. The bench was created by artist Richard Herzog and will be located at the Tuscawilla Art Park at 213 NE 5th Street, Ocala, Florida 34470. The Pioneer Garden Club has long been dedicated to environmental stewardship and the enhancement of public landscapes, and this donation reflects that ongoing commitment. The bench is designed to highlight native plants and wildlife, specifically the Zebra Longwing butterfly, and will be placed beside the garden the Club already maintains within the park, creating a thoughtful connection between the artwork and the natural elements that inspired it.
Mr. Herzog has agreed to provide staff with a materials list and maintenance schedule. The Pioneer Garden Club has agreed to provide a maintenance donation of $200 a year for 10 years.

Zebra Longwing is constructed of steel and coated with industrial acrylic and represents a firebush branch, a zebra longwing butterfly and a leaf for sitting. There are minimal long-term maintenance requirements. The dimensions are approximately ten feet wide by eleven feet tall and is valued at $7,000.00. The city currently has no other sculptures that also provide functional seating as part of the permanent collection. This installation would not only celebrate a century of community service but also enrich the visual and ecological character of Tuscawilla Art Park. The donation of Zebra Longwing for the community's enjoyment demonstrates continued support for the City of Ocala's public art program...
