BACKGROUND:
The approach end of Runway 36 was recently identified as not meeting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards for a runway safety area due to changes in grade and depressions that exceed FAA design tolerances.
The Airport has been working closely with the FAA to coordinate the design of the grading project. In September 2025, the FAA awarded the City a 95 percent grant to begin the design. This Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant complements the previously approved FAA grant, further reducing the Airport's financial obligation for the design and rehabilitation of this ramp area. Initially, the Airport was responsible for $11,886, but with the addition of the FDOT grant, this obligation has been reduced to $2,377.
