BACKGROUND:

The City provides each Fire Rescue employee with a $500 annual allowance for the purchase of fire department uniform apparel.  The annual allowance is negotiated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the City and the IAFF Local 2135 (Firefighter Union).

On September 20, 2022, after a competitive solicitation process, the City awarded the contract for the provision of fire rescue uniform apparel to Read’s Uniforms, LLC, Contract No. OFR/220630, for an initial term of three years through September 19, 2025.  The contract documents allowed for two optional one-year renewal terms thereafter.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

To ensure that the City received the most timely and affordable uniform service possible, Read’s Uniforms LLC was contacted and agreed to exercise the first one-year renewal option under the contract's original terms with an amendment to the original price proposal.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The estimated annual expenditure for fire rescue uniforms is $138,000.  Funding is included in the Fire Rescue Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget account 001-19-019-522-52-52010 Operating Supplies-Other.
