BACKGROUND:
The Water Resources Department currently operates and maintains approximately 151 lift stations. Due to the City's varying elevations, maintaining a fully functional gravity-based collection system is challenging. Lift stations (LS) are strategically placed to help transport collected materials to wastewater treatment facilities.
On August 14, 2023, the City issued Request for Information (RFI) No. 230710 in connection with Sole Source Posting (SSP) No. 211 for Sulzer wastewater utility products. In accordance with §120.57(3), Florida Statutes, SSP No. 211 was publicly advertised for 15 business days and closed on September 7 2023, with no protests from other vendors. The Department requests additional funds to maintain inventory levels at the warehouse for future emergencies and maintenance needs.
Sulzer pumps are used on special applications where it is not feasible to use Grundfos or ShinMaywa pumps due to high flow and head-pressure. The pumps range in size from 2 to 137 horsepower. Some locations currently operating with Sulzer pumps are LS 064, LS038, LS089, LS 124, LS 146, LS 152, LS162, LS164, LS166, LS167, LS168, and LS170.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Standardizing Sulzer pumps limits the number of pumps and brands to be individually tested in our system. Standardizing for this purpose saves time and money while enhancing performance, maintenance, and redundancy.
