BACKGROUND:
Since its inception, Ocala Fiber Network (OFN) has operated using Ocala Electric Utility's ArcFM software system, which was developed for electric utility operations and offers limited support for telecommunications fiber design. As the fiber optic network continues to grow, OFN requires a more specialized platform designed to meet the evolving needs of a modern telecommunications infrastructure.
To that end, OFN has conducted a thorough evaluation of fiber-specific design software. During a strategic review by Uptown Services, LLC, it was recommended that OFN adopt a standalone Geographic Information Systems (GIS) platform tailored to fiber network design. Uptown specifically recommended CrescentLink, citing its robust capabilities and alignment with OFN's long-term goals.
Following this recommendation, OFN collaborated with the City's Information Technology Department to evaluate CrescentLink. A product demonstration was conducted and both teams found CrescentLink to not only meet OFN's technical requirements, but to also integrate seamlessly with the City's existing GIS infrastructure.
