BACKGROUND:
On January 19, 2023, the City of Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) entered into a professional services contract with GAI Consultants, Inc., for design and engineering services related to electric transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.
The Shaw Substation provides 12.47kV electric distribution service to the southwest area of the service territory. To accommodate planned and projected residential and commercial growth, the substation's capacity must be expanded by adding a 69/12kV transformer and associated infrastructure to support four additional 12.47kV distribution feeder circuits.
The City Council approved the transformer purchase on March 5, 2024.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
This capital improvement project is now in the design phase and requires outside engineering services. These services include civil and structural design for foundations and structural steel, and electrical design for protective relaying equipment and settings. The Shaw Substation transformer addition is part of OEU's five- and ten-year system planning. The proposed upgrades consistent with load growth patterns and supporting infrastructure needs in this part of OEU's service territory.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding for this Task Work Order is available in account string 332-032-183-531-69-65010 in the amount of $264,234.
PROCUREMENT REVIEW:
These services were procured in compliance with the City's Procurement Policy.
LEGAL REVIEW:
This Agreement has been reviewed and approved for form and legality by City Attorney, William E. Sexton.
