BACKGROUND:

The Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership, established by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, is a U.S. Department of Justice initiative aiding state and local law enforcement. Bulletproof vests are a critical resource with a five-year life span. The U. S. Department of Justice offers grants covering 50% of the cost to replace expired vests and acquire new ones for law enforcement officers.

 

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

On September 29, 2023, the Ocala Police department received approval for the Fiscal Year 2023 Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant totaling $30,397 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. This grant enables the purchase of bulletproof vests with a 50% match of $30,397 budgeted in Fiscal Year 2023-2024.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Grant funds will be allocated to account 001-060-849-521-52-52010.  A 50% match of $30,397 is allocated in account number 001-018-849-521-52-52010.
