BACKGROUND:
The Ocala Police Department (OPD) and Ocala Fire Rescue (OFR) use in-vehicle routers to keep their vehicles reliably connected to online public safety systems. OPD’s routers have been in service for more than six years, and OFR’s for more than seven.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
OFR’s routers have reached the end of their service life, and OPD’s are approaching it. Public safety systems depend on current, fully functional equipment to remain secure. Staff recommends replacing the routers in phases. The solicitation was conducted fairly and competitively. A quote obtained through the NASPO cooperative agreement was used as a benchmark for price comparison. The City then obtained a quote directly from the vendor through the open market, which offered an even lower price than the cooperative agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Ocala Police Department will procure 21 routers at $2,091.79 each, totaling $43,927.59, out of account 092-018-603-521-52-52060. Ocala Fire Rescue will procure 45 routers at $2,091.79 each, totaling $94,130.55, out of account 001-019-603-522-52-52060. This purchase will be tracked under Munis Contract 270079.
PROCUREMENT REVIEW:
These goods and services were procured in compliance with the City’s procurement policy.
LEGAL REVIEW:
This Agreement will be reviewed and approved for form and legality by City Attorney, William E Sexton.
