body
BACKGROUND:
Communities nationwide suffer from a lack of affordable housing, and housing production is not meeting the increasing demand for accessible and available units in many areas. Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) empowers communities that actively remove barriers to affordable housing by increasing housing production and lowering housing costs for families over the long term. On August 13, 2024, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued Funding Opportunity Number FR-6800-N-98, anticipating the award of $100,064,100 to 30 jurisdictions with a minimum award of $1,000,000, and a six-year performance period.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The City of Ocala's Community Development Services (CDS) Department, with assistance from the Ocala/Marion County Community Foundation, is submitting a competitive application for HUD funding in the amount of $7,000.000 to address the lack of affordable housing units in the City. If awarded, the City will carry out grant-approved housing activities throughout the grant period to create housing opportunities for low-moderate income families in the City of Ocala.
