body

BACKGROUND:  Staff proposes an ordinance to better address the new freestanding emergency rooms that are under review. The new definition would allow the use in more zoning districts than a hospital.

A satellite hospital emergency room shall be defined as a facility where medical or surgical care is given to non-ambulatory and ambulatory patients without limitation as to hours of service but not expressly intended for overnight accommodations. These facilities include related activities such as laboratories, outpatient services, training facilities, and emergency care services

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS: The requested ordinance is needed to address the new applications for freestanding emergency rooms. Staff recommends approval.
