BACKGROUND:
On November 7, 2022, Tropical Storm Nicole formed and became a hurricane before making landfall along Florida's East Coast. On November 9, 2022, Governor Ron DeSantis approved an emergency declaration for Florida and approved executive order 22-255 declaring a statewide emergency because of Hurricane Nicole and on December 14, 2022, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared Hurricane Nicole as a major disaster.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Approximately $346,000 of City expenses have been reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Florida for Category B, Protective Measures. During Fiscal Year 2022-23 the City incurred expenses related to Hurricane Nicole totaling $398,497.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Budget reserves totaling $398,497, as detailed below, will be used to support Fiscal Year 2022-23 expenditures caused by hurricane Nicole.
Staff recommends and seeks approval of the fund allocations for hurricane related city expenses as follows:
