BACKGROUND:
Due to current staffing conditions and caseload, there may be a need to refer certain cases to outside counsel for additional support. Most of these cases will be related to accidents or injuries and will be routed through our Risk Management Department. All such referrals will be reviewed, authorized, and managed by the City Attorney.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
There is a need to have available outside counsel for the referral of certain cases on an as-needed basis.
The law firm of Roper, P.A. has significant background, experience, and expertise in the area of representing and defending Florida local governments in matters likely to arise for the City of Ocala.
The hourly rates in the Legal Services Agreement with Roper, P.A. are competitive and will likely represent a cost savings for the City of Ocala.
Entry into the Legal Services Agreement with Roper, P.A. is in the best interest of the City of Ocala, Florida
FISCAL IMPACT:
The exact fiscal impact is unknown. All engagements of Roper, P.A. will be carefully considered for their fiscal impact.
PROCUREMENT REVIEW:
These services were procured in compliance with the City’s Procurement Policy and Florida law.
LEGAL REVIEW:
This Agreement has been reviewed and approved for form and legality by City Attorney, William E. Sexton.
