BACKGROUND:
On or about May 14, 2017, the Revitalization Strategies Division, now known as Community Programs, finalized a rehabilitation project for Thelma McQueen, an elderly, low-income household homeowner whose real property is located at 1669 SW Fifth St., Ocala, Florida. The project was completed using funding from the State Housing Initiative Program (SHIP) grant. The amount of the deferred mortgage was $37,595. Ms. McQueen passed away in July 2019.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
On or about April 12, 2024, Community Programs was contacted concerning the payout amount of the McQueen deferred mortgage through May 31, 2024. On or about May 24, 2024, Community Programs received a check for the balance of the deferred mortgage in the amount of $32,095.02. Staff recommends this amount be accepted via the proposed budget resolution and added to the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) budget to further assist low-income families with approved housing rehabilitation activities.

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2023-24 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE PROGRAM INCOME FOR THE CITY OF OCALA’S COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) IN THE AMOUNT OF $32,095
WHEREAS, the City of Ocala receives an annual allotment of CDBG funding to further the access of affordable housing, retain affordable housing stock, and address community needs; and
WHEREAS, on or about May 14, 2017, the Revitalization Strategies Division (now known as Community Programs) finalized a rehabilitation project for the property located at 1669 SW 5th St., Ocala, FL; and
WHEREAS, on or about April 12, 2024, the Community Programs division was contacted concerning the payout amount of the deferred mortgage for the referenced property through May 31, 2024; and
WHEREAS, on or about May 24, 2024, the Community Programs Division received a check for the balance of the deferred mortgage in the amount of $32,095.02.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, duly assembled in regular session, that the Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget be amended to appropriate $32,095.02 to carry out activities as outlined below.
