BACKGROUND:
This Budget Resolution accompanies a resolution to accept the “Zebra Longwing” sculptural bench into the City’s Public Art Collection. The Pioneer Garden Club of Ocala will provide $200 a year for annual maintenance of the “Zebra Longwing” sculpture. This $200 annual contribution will be made over 10 years, for a total of $2,000.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The City’s Public Art Policy Statement and Guidelines require that ten years of maintenance costs be provided in coordination with the donation of public art. The estimated maintenance costs are provided upon request and collected as part of the acceptance of the donated piece. These funds must be available for the maintenance of the associated piece.
Staff recommends approval.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City will receive $200 in annual revenue for 10 years, totaling $2,000, to offset maintenance costs for the sculptural bench “Zebra Longwing,” a public art piece donated by the Pioneer Garden Club. Funding will be deposited into the Designated Gifts for Art Maintenance revenue account (001-366-000-000-16-36639) and expended from the Reserve for Art Maintenance account 001-099-999-572-81-99870. The Cultural Arts staff will maintain records of all maintenance costs associated with this sculpture. Any funds not fully expended in any given year will be carried forward to the following year and will remain dedicated solely to the maintenance of this specific art piece.

A RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE FISCAL YEAR 2025-26 BUDGET TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FROM THE PIONEER GARDEN CLUB OF OCALA TO THE CITY OF OCALA FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE “ZEBRA LONGWING” SCULPTURE WITH AN ANNUAL DONATION OF $200 OVER A TEN-YEAR PERIOD
WHEREAS, the addition of public art to the City’s Public Art Collection will further the accessibility to arts in our community and enhance the current Public Art Collection; and
WHEREAS, the Pioneer Garden Club of Ocala will provide $200 for the maintenance of the “Zebra Longwing” sculpture and will continue to contribute $200 annually over ten years in accordance with the City of Ocala Public Art Policy Statement and Guidelines; and
WHEREAS, Cultural Arts staff will maintain records of all maintenance costs affiliated with this sculpture for ten years; and
WHEREAS, any funds not fully expended in any given year for the maintenance of this sculpture will be carried forward to the following year and will remain dedicated solely to this specific art piece.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, duly assembled in regular session, that the fiscal year 2026-2027 budget be amended to appropriate funding as follows:
