OCALA’S RELEVANT STRATEGIC GOALS:

Operational Excellence

PROOF OF PUBLICATION:

body

BACKGROUND:

The Public Works Department utilizes automated side loader (ASL) refuse trucks to provide efficient and dependable residential waste collection throughout the City. Staff identified an existing City-owned salvaged ASL body suitable for refurbishment and installation on a new Mack refuse chassis. The ASL body, retrieved from a truck chassis that had sustained prior damage, has undergone thorough inspection and has been deemed fit for continued operational service.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

Refurbishing the ASL truck body, which has been in service for 14 months, constitutes a prudent and cost-effective action. This initiative will extend the asset’s lifespan, maintain operational reliability, and optimize the City's investment by deferring the need for a significantly more expensive full replacement.

The refuse chassis and refurbishment will be purchased from Nextran Truck Centers under the Florida Sheriffs Association Contract No. FSA25-VEH23.0, for a total cost of $299,604.

As a political subdivision of the State of Florida, the City of Ocala qualifies as an eligible user of direct purchase contracts solicited and negotiated by the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA).  Agreement No.: FSA25-VEH23.0 was awarded by FSA. Cooperative purchasing programs are comprised of member cities, counties, and other public agencies nationwide that aggregate their members’ purchasing power to achieve greater volume discounts.  The solicitation underlying Agreement FSA25-VEH23.0 has been evaluated and determined by the City’s Procurement Department and Fleet to be cost-effective and to afford the best value.

Staff recommends approval.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for this purchase is budgeted in account 453-023-602-534-66-64010 - Public Works Sanitation Machinery and Equipment.
