body

BACKGROUND:

The approach end of Runway 36 was recently found to not meet the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards for a runway safety area due to changes in grade and depressions that exceed FAA design tolerances. The FAA previously awarded an Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant for the design of this project.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

This AIP grant is for the construction phase.

The Airport Advisory Board supports this project.

The project is consistent with the Airport Master Plan.

Once the FAA grant is approved and executed, a request will be made to the Florida Department of Transportation for a grant to offset the City’s matching obligation further.

Staff also requests that the City Council authorize the City Council President and City Attorney to execute the grant.

                     Staff recommends approval.
