BACKGROUND:

The Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP), created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement. Bulletproof vests have a five-year lifespan. Grants from the U.S. Department of Justice are available to assist agencies with 50 percent of the funding to replace expired vests and purchase new bulletproof vests.

 

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

On 9/26/24, the Ocala Police Department was advised that the funding opportunity entitled Fiscal Year 2024 Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) was approved by the Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $29,345. This grant will allow the agency to purchase bulletproof vests. There will be a 50 percent match of $29,345 budgeted for Fiscal Year 2024-25.

FISCAL IMPACT:

A match of $29,345 is required for the 50 percent match for the grant from account #001-018-822-521-52-52010, MUNIS Contract #250009.

BUDGET RESOLUTION 2025-111

 

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2024-25 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS FROM THE BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE FOR THE PURCHASE OF BULLETPROOF VESTS TOTALING $29,345

 

 

WHEREAS, the safety and protection of law enforcement officers is of utmost importance to the City of Ocala; and

 

WHEREAS, bulletproof vests have a limited five-year lifespan and grants are available to assist agencies with funding to replace and purchase new vests for law enforcement officers; and

 

WHEREAS, on September 26, 2024, the Ocala Police Department received notification of funding for Award Number 2024-BUBX-24041452 through the Bulletproof Vest Program, funded by the Bureau of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and U.S. Department of Justice for the purchase of bulletproof vests effective upon execution through August 30, 2026; and

 

WHEREAS, the police department’s budget includes funding for the required 50% grant match.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, in regular session duly assembled, that the Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget be amended as outlined below.
